Blending the traditional with the contemporary, the refurbished Prince Albert in Royal College Street looks set to make its mark on Camden when it opens as a fully-fledged restaurant and bar this November.
This local landmark began welcoming customers back in 1843 but a century and a half later had begun to fall on hard times. Run by the same Irish family for many years, The Prince Albert finally closed its doors in the summer of 2006. Purchased by entrepreneurs Tim and Nick Cockburn, the brothers defied expectations and instead of converting the building into apartments, made the decision to restore it to its former glory.
Months of hard work later and The Prince Albert has been transformed into a restaurant and bar of quality and character.
The restored period features - exterior tiling, original leaded glass and wood panelling - have been blended with modern touches making for an eclectic yet comfortable interior.
Food will be served all day upstairs in the Dining Room, downstairs in the bar and outside in the beer garden.
Charged with devising not one but four menus for the Prince Albert is Head Chef David Gill, a man who has worked with the best in the business including Marco Pierre White at Canteen, Sir Terence Conran at Butler's Wharf Chop House and Terry Laybourne at 21 Queen Street.
David was also Head Chef for the Apartment Group in Newcastle, winner of the 2004 UK Best Bar/Restaurant award.
